We woke up super early and drove to Tin Can Bay to feed the wild dolphins. It was quite confronting to see these dolphins, they are nothing like the spectacular dolphins we are so lucky to see in Western Port and Port Phillip bay at home on Adams boat. The dolphins today were very scarred and damaged. The lady explained to us that the dolphins in Tin Can Bay are very territorial, there are 9 in the pod and the alpha male who we fed today spends a lot of his time fighting off other dolphins from entering his territory. They are also scarred because they don’t leave the bay and it can be quite shallow and rocky at times and also when water levels are low they are more likely to come across predators. Can’t help but wonder if the interaction with humans everyday has anything to do with their condition. Kids enjoyed the feeding Holly loves her dolphins. 🐬
We then took a drive down to Inskip Point which we have heard heaps about. On the way we came across some young Europeans in the middle of the road trying to drive a 4WD to the barge to Frazer Island. They couldn’t get the car into gear. Adam had to help them out. Can’t imagine how they would survive driving on Frazer when they couldn’t even make it to the barge. It was funny.
The water at Inskip Bay was amazing so blue and the sand so white. We will defiantly come back here and do some beach camping next time. We saw some dolphins and right near the car a Lace Monitor which we were super excited about.
We came back to Rainbow and hit the beach. Adam and Holly did some surfing and me and the boys jumped some waves. The beach is beautiful. I found a new use for Holly’s surfboard bag. It turned into a very comfy/sheltered bed for Sam to sleep the afternoon away after a big swimming session. The weather dramatically changed in the late afternoon with a storm!! It was great excuse to relax in the camper and watch a movie. I snuck out and did some shopping. Snapped up a few bargains. 😉
