Thanks 6N – Max

Thanks for commenting on our blog and wishing me a happy birthday. It means a lot, we are still in Cairns until Sunday. On Saturday we are snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. It was good to hear all your stories and catch up on what’s been happening in Berwick.

See you all next term

Max.

Day 37 – Cairns 5th August (Tuesday)

Woke up after very little sleep having Holly awake most of the night with what ended up being an ear infection from all the swimming. Somehow we managed to get to the Kuranda Skyrail in a mad rush by 10:15am. The skyrail was so high it was amazing, and the jungle beneath you was just as mind blowing as the views. It stopped twice on the way up and you could do a couple of boardwalk strolls. At Kuranda there were lots of nice little souvenir stores ice cream shops and the biggest hit with the kids the lolly shop. Yum. You could watch them make the candy the smell was so strong.
We went to a great reptile/spider house, although not a big place the kids all got to hold a snake and touch various lizards so well worth the money. A nice lunch at a cafe with mum and dad and a stroll through the markets.
We caught the rail back down the mountain. A little slower and longer than the journey up, Kids seemed to love the tunnels more than the waterfall views and sheer drops to the bottom. Early night tonight exhausted. Rainy day today but still warm. Weather very different to our previous month in N.T.

Day 35 – Port Douglas – 3rd August (Sunday)

Headed up the winding road to Port Douglas today. The road follows the coastline and it is spectacular over looking the Great Barrier Reef. The drive is about 65 km. It is a beautiful place. We went through the Sunday market which had a variety things from chocolate coated frozen bananas to arts and crafts. Max and Cody brought a travel chess board (loves playing chess) and a sling shot. Ainsley and Holly had there hair done with a hair wrap. We sat by the water and had a picnic lunch. On the way back to Cairns just out of Port Douglas Max spotted what we thought was a large lizard on the side of road but it was a small crocodile. We hoped of the car to take some photos.
Adam and I left the kids with nana and pa and caught a plane out to Melbourne for Ma’s funeral tomorrow. It was a shock arriving at Tullamarine airport at 12:00 midnight in a pair of thongs. 4 degrees !! โ„๏ธ

Today was a special day being Max’s 12th birthday !๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ

We went for a drive around Cairns out to the Kuranda skyrail which we will be riding on later in the week. Cairns a very busy place. Weather today was beautiful a sunny 28 degrees.โ˜€๏ธ We went down the the foreshore lagoon pool and the kids had a swim and some lunch. There was a gorgeous little market on with some really unique little pieces of clothing and trinkets. (Melissa you would have loved it)!
We retuned back to park just in time for the arrival of Nana and Pa Fletcher which was all very exciting. They have a great little cabin. Sam particularly liking their bunk beds.
Thanks to everyone celebrating Max’s birthday and heading out for dinner with us to the Coconut restaurant in the resort. Off to Port Douglas and surrounds tomorrow. Looking forward to it, waited a lifetime to see this place, one of mum and dad’s favorite holiday locations.

Day 31 – Rollingstone – 30th July (Wednesday)

Today we woke up to scones and billy tea for breakfast at Charters Towers camp kitchen, they took just a gold coin donation. Adam and kids had a FRESH morning swim in the pool. Then we drove 2 hours to Rollingstones which is just north of Townsville. Finally we have arrived on the coast. The pool is amazing. The big 4 caravan park is right on the beach. We took a walk along the beach and found that most shells we picked up had a crab inside which was cool. We also have a lake right behind our caravan it is full of eels! We threw in some bread and they all come fighting for it. We are here for just the night and off to Cairns tomorrow. Tonight’s entertainment was Sam wearing my bikini and sunglasses. (Picture below).
